1990-1994   THE EARLY YEARS
Lance attended Victoria School for the Visual and Performing Arts, studying Dance, Music, Acting, Singing, Visual Arts and Production.

Lance graduated from the School with the highest Honors, receiving the “Major Arts Award” for overall Achievement in the Performing Arts.

1993   CHASING THE DREAM
At the age of 17, Lance began his professional career performing in the musical “Oliver!” at the Citadel theatre in Edmonton, alberta. He continued to work as a Singer/Dancer/Actor for many years, performing for various theatre companies and social events around the city.

1998-2000   CARDINAL PRODUCTIONS
Lance established his own production company Cardinal Productions. This live entertainment “show group” set the stage in many big nightclubs throughout Edmonton and showcased new local talent.

1999   "YOUR BIG BREAK" ON NBC
Lance went to L.A. to compete on the NBC Hit Show, “Your Big Break!” This pre-American Idol reality show featured singers from all over Canada and the United Sates. Lance was one of only two Canadians picked out of over 100,000 North Americans who auditioned.

2001-2003   VANCOUVER
Lance made a very difficult decision to leave his home province of Alberta, his friends and family and take a chance on the west coast. Once in Vancouver, Lance immediately began performing in local theatre productions and making new contacts and gaining his professional status as an actor.

2003   ARTISTIC PRODUCER
Lance was asked to become Artistic Producer for Ophidian Entertainment. Lance provided the role of Artistic Producer, Writer, Director, Choreographer, Set Designer, and of course, performer.

2004   SET DESIGN CAREER
Lance found a new passion for set design.  Although he had no formal training as a designer, he was an experienced artist. He taught himself the technical requirements needed and paired it with his strong background in visual and performing arts. A career was born.

2004   CARDINAL PRODUCTIONS AND DESIGN
Lance established CARDINAL PRODUCTIONS AND DESIGN, a full service Production Company that provided design, build and install packages. Lance worked with a small crew of builders and creative minds to provide quality scenic designs for various companies throughout the lower mainland.

2004-2006   ENTERTAINMENT PRODUCER
Lance re-establishes his original show group, Cardinal Productions. This time he teamed up Jeff Cox and Dawn Ewen, and together they conceived a new brand of entertainment, “The Theatrical Experience”.

2006-2007   THE VANCOUVER OPERA
Lance was hired as a design intern for the Vancouver Opera’s New Production of “The Magic Flute”. Lance was brought in to contribute his creative mind and assist the lead set designer. Lance was hired as Lead Designer for the Vancouver Opera’s School Touring Production of “The Magic Flute-Quest for the Box of Shadows”.

2008   ABORIGINAL PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR
Lance was asked to be a part of a very special, very BIG and very personal, creative project. The Bigstone Cree Nation community school in Wabasca, Alberta was celebrating their 10 year anniversary. His 4 month long job offer included: event co-ordinating the day long anniversary celebrations, hiring entertainment/lighting, retrofitting the new Music/Dance studio and main stage with professional draperies and mirrors, designing and implementing the Bigstone Chief Commemorative garden, designing the event programme, organizing guided school tours, creating a new Theatre Arts Curriculum which is suitable for first nation students never before exposed to the Arts, and facilitating two 7 week theatrical workshops which included Dance, Drama, Puppetry and Music. Lance was honored to do it, and it changed his life forever.

2009-2011   EMILY CARR UNIVERSITY
lance goes back to school to study at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design, working towards a degree in the Visual arts, with Focus on Sculpture, Illustration and Photography.

2011   LIFE IN NEW WESTMINSTER AND BEYOND
Lance is now living in New Westminster, BC, growing from his experiences and looking forward to his future goals and opportunities. Lance has a strong interest in the field of Theme Park design and has been working on a large scale project in this field. He also has a new original musical in the works and hopes to have it produced within the next ten years. Lance has many “big ideas” in his repertoire that he knows will come to fruition, when the time is right and the fates are aligned.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Lance’s Journey continues on...his dreams of inspiring the world with new ideas, Imagination and magic have come to pass. His drive is unbridling, his passion is un-stoppable. He has followed his dreams and has committed to his creative soul. One of Lance’s mantras is, “All your dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them”-Walt Disney. This is the life of an artist.

The Light In The Piazza - Set / Props Design

This was a Set Design Job for the musical, "The Light in the Piazza". Patrick Street Productions produced this amazing Canadian Premier at the Norman Rothstein Theatre in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The cast was amazing and the production was beautiful. This is definitely one of my favorite Set Designs to date and the Patrick Street team was such a pleasure to work for. The Show ran from September 15th - October 9th. 2011. The reviews were amazing and the audiences were brought to tears. Here are some pictures of the process of designing "The Light in the Piazza" from design to finished product. Hope you enjoy.

This Show is currently in storage and AVAILABLE FOR RE-MOUNT OR TOUR!! It travels easily and can be installed into Many locations. Contact Patrick Street Productions for more information.

Set Model for "The Light in the Piazza" by Patrick Street Productions

These 2 large frame units are double sided and have wheels. They are the main set elements used to create the different locations
Male nude bust for the museum scene. This was a custom build and is also on wheels.
The fabric in the centre is scrim which works as a translucent barrier.
When the light shines on the front of it, it seems solid...
When it shines on something behind it, the image magically appears!! Very common theatrical effect.
The set was neutral enough for the lighting to create blankets of color
This doorway was on a fly and moved up and down. Notice the "Frame" look on all pieces.
Here we can see the scope of the false proscenium arch frame
The Frame theme carried through the entire set. This broken frame represented the ruins of Rome
This Church cross was also made of frames and stood 8 feet tall!! It flew in and out as well
You can see behind that the band was onstage the whole time.

SET DRAWINGS

This is the pattern design for the main arch around the stage. It was designed to look like stone relief panels found in the architecture of old Florence Italy.

THE BUILD

Here is the mold to be repeated. Its made of wood and trim and foam.

Here are the plastic panels AFTER they have been molded and painted with the basic color scheme

Close up on the details
Idea of the scale of the arch.
Here is the color scheme given to the painters.
The Bed unit is on wheels as well and fits a standard double mattress
Roman ruins before paint...just foam.
The cross and frame

Close up of Paint Treatment. Big thanks to Justice Hays for his amazing paint skills!!

These frames did not make it to final production, but that is the nature of the beast.

 SET MODEL

Process for the MALE NUDE BUST

This started off as a store mannequin. I thought I could adjust it to make it look more organic.
The guys at the shop attached it to the base first. It was easier to work with this way.
I added new parts with Crayola Model Magic Compound.
Then I did a tissue paper effect with glue and water. This is to give the paint a place to create texture.
These genitals were a requirement from the script.
Museum Ready....
