MINIATURE "MUPPET NEWS FLASH" TV SET

Hey everyone thanks so much for checking out my blog! I'm super excited today to share my scratch built miniature Muppet Show "Muppet News Flash" television set. Many years ago I began collecting The Muppet Show Palisades figures and one of the really cool characters that came with it was the Muppet news flash man. He is one of my favourites from the Muppet Show!
He was always so funny because things always fell on his head and his glasses rattled around on his face LOL. The toy that was released by Palisades was really cool cuz it came with a telephone and removable glasses! It also came with a desk and small background.
Although it was cool that it came with it, I didn't like the scale. The background was way too small and the desk didn't seem right. So....as I do... I decided to make my own!
And here it is in all its Glory! As you can see I made the desk much bigger and rounded, I created a backdrop that was more proportionate to the TV show backdrop (In season 2 and 3 anyway). This was many hours of research and drawing until it was right.
The newsman looks so much better holding papers and also his telephone and microphone have way better proportions.
I used foam core and cardboard to create the base for everything. I printed out small scale woodgrains at a local library and then used it for the "TV's".
I also custom-made the two maps that you see as well with a basic paint program and then printed in many different sizes so I had lots to work with.
The clocks were made from styrofoam and mini bead strings and wire. The square clock for only seen in season 2 and 3 and forward.
To make the clocks, I used a mini string of beads because they are equally spaced apart and save me a lot of trouble.
I then paint them silver added some black painted wire and then the clocks were done!
The wall itself didn't stand up very easily so I created a scale "Jack" you would see at a TV studio or theatre.
It's really cool because it has a Muppet Show Vibe but also a practical use as well. I filled the little handmade sand bags with stones what would hold up the set nicely. Just like the Muppets would have done!
I also decided it was important to include other variations for the TV sets. Here are some that I printed out
I put little beads in the back of each image (which was mounted on cereal box cardboard) and then poked two holes in the sent so they could press in and out easily and stay in place
The Muppet news flash one looks particularly good!
Here you can see the wall with two alternate TV show images.

Well, that pretty much does it. Hope you enjoyed looking at these pictures and a little bit of the process it takes to create one of these. This was a one-day build, took around 8 hours. I do It For the Love of the Muppets and I hope that you are here for the same reasons! Thanks and have a great day!
